Samuel Sumner Jr.

Mr. Samuel Sumner Jr. was born on Oct. 16, 1932, to the late Samuel and Curlie Sumner, the 13th child of 14 siblings. He was a graduate of Douglass High S School, Class of 1952, and was a member of the first organized band for Douglass High. After graduating, he attended Clark College in Atlanta. While there, he was drafted into the military, where he proudly served during the Korean War. After two years of service, he returned to Atlanta, to complete his education. He became an interior designer and elementary art teacher. He was a window display designer for several major department stores in the Atlanta area. Samuel was a man of many talents, including arts and designs, as well as a lover of all types of music. He is survived by two sisters, Susie and Bertha Sumner, both of Thomasville; and a host of nieces and nephews. The service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at St. Luke CME Church, 305 Chatham Drive, Thomasville, with the Rev. Quinn Choice, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 812 S. Broad St., Thomasville, for the processional. Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. — Hadley’s Funeral Home
