Atlanta public transit system hiring new police officers

ATLANTA (AP) — The police department for Atlanta’s public transit system is hiring.

The MARTA Police Department plans to host a job fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at MARTA headquarters. The department says it will offer on-site information sessions for open positions.

Police recruiters plan to pre-screen applicants.

Applicants must be at least 21 and are required to pass tests including a background investigation that will include criminal history checks, a polygraph test and a credit check. Candidates also have to pass a physical examination that includes drug and alcohol screening, as well as psychological testing.

Pay starts at $35,609 and tops out at $54,787 for a senior officer.
