Children learn facts about Georgia

- Children of the Confederacy members Spencer Webb, Ayden Webb, John B. Gordon 840 chapter president Jenah Mercer and John B. Gordon 383 United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter president Sheila Tucker are enjoying looking and reading about Georgia Battles, Georgia Generals and Confederate flags on posters given to them. They also enjoyed receiving some Georgia grown peanuts.
Do you know the name of the Georgia state fish, crop and insect? Members of the John B. Gordon 840 Children of the Confederacy were presented a program about Georgia Day and had fun solving puzzles on a chart that asked questions and facts about Georgia. They also enjoyed unscrambling words that pertained to Georgia.
Sheila Tucker, president of the John B. Gordon 383 Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy was the program speaker.
Each CofC member was presented with a Georgia postcard, bag of Georgia peanuts, Georgia Day booklet with interesting facts and information about Georgia.
This booklet was published by the Georgia Division UDC. These were given to the CofC members by Mary Margaret Quiggle. She is John B. Gordon 383 UDC chapter’s Georgia Day Chairman.
Tucker also presented each child with two Sons of Confederate Veteran posters that included Georgia battles fought during the War Between the States, such as the Battle of Atlanta.
The CofC chapter is an auxiliary of the UDC. Several UDC members also attended to show their support for the CofC. Jenah Mercer, president of John B. Gordon 840 Children of the Confederacy led the meeting by beginning with the Ritual of the CofC.
The answers to the question above are: Georgia state fish — largemouth bass; state crop — peanut; and state insect — honeybee.
