Mr. and Mrs. William James McCollum of Thomasville announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie Elizabeth McCollum of Baltimore, Maryland, to Luke Daniel Friesen, also of Baltimore. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence John Friesen.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen Thomas Sr. and the late Dr. and Mrs. William McCollum.

She is a 2006 honor graduate of Thomasville High School, a 2010 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor of arts in journalism and a 2014 cum laude graduate of Georgia State University with a juris doctorate.

She is an attorney advisor for the Social Security Administration.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Wilma Eileen Vainer and the late Charles Edward Vainer Jr., the late Mrs. Dorothy Mae Friesen Shimel and the late Mr. Robert George Friesen.

He is a 2006 honor graduate of Thomasville High School and a 2010 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelor of business administration.

He is a manager for KPMG, LLP.

A November wedding is planned in Thomasville.
