THOMASVILLE- The five objectives of the UDC are: Historical, Educational, Memorial, Benevolent, and Patriotic. John B. Gordon 383 UDC chose to support the Halcyon Home so as to meet the objectives and help those in need. The Halcyon Home is a non-profit organization that supports victims of domestic violence. It is a refuge for children and battered women. During the Christmas season the number of domestic violences reach higher numbers. This special place also provides for a Crisis/Support Line. ( 1-800-284-9980 and 229-226-6666)
The Halcyon Home states, “Violence is a learned behavior that is often passed from one generation to another. Many victims of domestic abuse report growing up in violent homes or being abused as children. The same is true of men who batter. Exposure to violence in the home affects everyone in their adult lives.”
The Halcyon Home provides a temporary, safe place for women and children. This Christmas, John B. Gordon 383 UDC has furnished items such as toys, throw blankets, clothing, diapers, stuffed animals, children books, etc. for the Halcyon Home in hopes of bringing joy and relief for those under such undesirable stress.
