A memorial service for John Edward Houser, 87, will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 4 p.m. Mr. Houser died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Southern Pines Senior Living Community after a brief illness. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he was born Dec. 24, 1928, the youngest of six children of Dr. Aubrey Alphin Houser and Winnifred Savage Houser. He attended the Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia, and graduated from the University of Virginia, where he received his undergraduate and law degrees. Mr. Houser served in Germany for four years as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He practiced law in Jacksonville, Florida, as a civil trial attorney for 50 years before retiring to his Thomasville home. Mr. Houser was predeceased by his wife, Rives Pollard Houser, and is survived by her children, Allen Rives Lybrook and Andrew Murray Lybrook; grandchildren, Lathrop Lybrook, Bowen Lybrook Clay and husband, Nick Clay; and great-grandchildren, Brooks, Bo and Rives Clay.
