THOMASVILLE – On Tuesday afternoon Thomasville senior and catcher Daylee Beatty signed to play softball at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Alabama.
“For her, I think it’s huge. There’s a lot of growing that she had to do, especially getting here in June and she had to grow up fast,” said Thomasville head softball coach Randy Adams. “She never backed down from a challenge. She always wanted more, she didn’t ever tell me to back off so to speak. It was more so I was having to pull back the reigns instead of having to crank her up.”
Beatty played catcher for the Lady Bulldogs this past season as they went 11-14 and 9-9 in region play. The Thomasville catcher showed significant growth in her senior campaign, something that Adams was quick to note.
“I think the girls seeing the growth that she made. I mean, this year she hit the most home runs that I believe she’s ever hit in her career just with minor adjustments,” Adams said. “Then she signs a scholarship, she’s signing as a catcher when she’s naturally a first baseman. So, she made all of that growth in one season and that should be pretty inspirational to these youngsters. She’s left a really strong mark at the program.”
As for what Beatty will bring to the Saints, Adams noted her powerful bat.
“She has a lot of pop in her bat. I think we tapped into it, but I think there is even more power in that bat,” Adams said. “Especially in college where you’re playing 50 games a year and not 25 or 30. I wouldn’t be shocked if she puts up some pretty big power numbers for her school.”
The Lurleen B Wallace Community College Saints will begin their 2025 season with a doubleheader on January 29 against Andrew College. Last season they went 18-35 and 12-20 in conference play.
