THOMASVILLE – After an excellent season, the Thomasville girls’ soccer team fell to six seeded Model in the elite eight. The Lady Bulldogs fell 2-0 to Model on Monday.

“I thought we played really well. We fought hard,” said Thomasville head coach Lucas Kimmel. “Just made a couple mistakes in that first half that cost us and kind of changed the momentum of the game.”

Model went up early, scoring two in the first half. Thomasville kept them at two but was unable to put the ball in the back of the net. They lost 2-0.

“We were more than capable of competing with that team it just didn’t go in our favor,” said Kimmel.

The Lady Bulldogs had a fantastic season. Thomasville finished 17-3 and only lost two regular season contests, both to Thomas County Central. They finished 6-0 in region play and captured a region title.

Thomasville had several key wins like their 10-0 season opening win over Valdosta, a 4-0 win over region runner-up Jeff Davis, and their overtime defeat of Deerfield-Windsor that ended in PK’s.

“The girls played really well. Super proud of them for how hard they worked and how well they did this season,” Kimmel said. “I told the girls last night, next year we will be back just as far for vengeance.”

This is a very young Thomasville team, fielding only three seniors and ten freshmen. When asked how he feels about coming back with a lot of the same players Kimmel said, “I’m very excited to see what they going do in these next few years and just to continue to improve.”
