THOMASVILLE – Scholars Academy is proud to recognize Jackie Wilson King as its 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year, honoring her passion for language, cultural connection, and unwavering dedication to her students and community.
King teaches a variety of Spanish courses, including Honors Spanish 1 and 2 for 7th and 8th graders and a rotating Spanish Culture class for 6th graders. She also serves as the advisor for the THS Spanish Club, creating unique opportunities for students to engage with language and culture beyond the classroom.
Her path to teaching was shaped by meaningful experiences, including service work in South America and studying in Spain. Driven by her desire to help students develop not only academically but personally, she brings enthusiasm and care to her classroom every day.
“I truly care about my students—not just academically, but personally,” King shared. “Beyond teaching my subject, I aim to be a safe space for them, to help them develop life skills, and to be their cheerleader, encouraging them to believe in themselves and pursue their goals.”
Among her favorite memories are the moments of connection and service including students making and delivering handmade piñatas to Scott Elementary, Christmas caroling with the Spanish Club, and organizing the Thomasville Multicultural Celebration, bringing together families and cultures from across the community.
King also finds creative ways to make learning real and relevant—like taking students to Rancho Grande for a Spanish-speaking field trip or inviting Hispanic community members to speak with her classes.
“Spanish plays a vital role in our students’ daily lives and futures, both locally and beyond,” she said.
Being named Teacher of the Year is a humbling experience for King.
“I work with so many amazing and hardworking teachers,” she said. “There are countless educators in our district who go above and beyond every day. I’m incredibly honored to be selected.”
Outside the classroom, King is also a licensed hairdresser with over 20 years of experience and still keeps a salon in her home.
She lives by the motto used in her volleyball program: T.E.A.M. – Together Everyone Achieves More.
Thomasville City Schools is proud to honor King for her outstanding service, leadership, and love for students.
