Rose City Walk takes over Thomasville

THOMASVILLE – A premier festivity of the Rose Festival is the 5K Rose City Walk. The Rose City Walk was held on Saturday, April 24 and was once again won by Tallahassee native Hans Hassell. Hassell won the 5K walk with a time of 27:23, finishing over five minutes before the second-place finisher.
In second was Lake Park, Georgia’s Ryan Kelly, who finished with a time of 32:45. The fastest female finisher was Thomasville’s own Rosalee Wilson. She finished with a time of 33:31 and placed third overall. The top three female finishers were from Thomasville and included Wilson, Peggy Willis, and Melinda Law. Thomasvillian Nancy Herring was fifth among female finishers, giving Thomasville four out of the top five female racers.
On the men’s side, Thomasville placed third, fourth, and fifth. Ben Carlise place third in the men’s category and fourth overall with a time of 34:22. The fourth-place man and fifth overall finisher was Todd Bennett only 16 seconds behind Carlise and Nicholas May was fifth place in the men’s category at 36:12. He place in the top 10 overall.
Multiple businesses received awards for their attendance. Archbold Memorial Hospital, City of Thomasville, Cleaver Brooks, and Pursuit Aerospace all received awards in their respective categories for participation. Secure Records Solutions, LLC won the Archbold Wellness Trophy, and the William H. Raney/Kiwanis Club Civic Club Award was won by the Kiwanis Club. The Thomas County School award was won by Thomas County Central and Thomasville swept the oldest participant awards with the oldest female walker being Thomasville’s Susan Haberkorn and Gary Breedlove winning the John Ellsworth Stevens Trophy for oldest male.
