THOMASVILLE – The Thomasville Lady Bulldogs soccer team advanced to the elite eight on Thursday night after defeated Toombs County 2-0.

“We played well. Very important that we got the shut out there, very strong defensively, we did what we needed to do,” said Thomasville head girls’ soccer coach Lucas Kimmel. “Obviously, you watch this one and we could have put a few more in the back of the net in the first half, but again we did what we were supposed to do and we’re preparing for Monday.”

Thomasville struck early as Leila Lutes put the ball in the back of the net, making it 1-0 in the first. Toombs had multiple chances to tie the game, but Thomasville goalkeeper Ella Kate Carroll was a stone wall.

Thomasville went into halftime with a 1-0 lead and needing to make some defensive adjustments. Kimmel credited those adjustments as a big part of the Lady Bulldogs round two shutout victory.

“We adjusted properly at half,” Kimmel said. “We fixed our little issues that gave them those chances in that first half, and we did what we’re supposed to do.”

Emma Reichert would get tangled up with a defender later in the second half when tracking a cross. The ball deflected off Reichert’s hip and slid past the goalie for and impressive second goal for Thomasville, driving them to a 2-0 lead that they would hold until the end of the game.

Thomasville will host Model in the elite eight after a reported 12-0 beatdown of the Swainsboro Tigers. It’s a matchup of powerhouse program as three seeded Thomasville comes in at 16-2 while Model, the six seed, comes in at 14-1.

The game will take place on Monday. When asked if his team is prepared for such a quick turnaround, Kimmel simply replied, “yes sir”.
