THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central’s football team has a new spring schedule and opponent for its annual spring game in May.
The school announced via social media this week that the new schedule will start on Wednesday, April 30, include eight practices, one intra-squad scrimmage on May 10 and its home spring game against Creekside on May 16.
Central was scheduled to play its annual spring scrimmage against Gainesville and against North Gwinnett at Georgia State’s Center Parc Stadium. But due to a scheduling conflict, the event was cancelled.
“We found out that Georgia State had to cancel because of some movie contract that they had on the stadium and thought they had access to, but turns out they don’t,” Central head coach Justin Rogers said.
Central’s spring schedule will include practice dates on April 30, May 2, May 5, May 7, May 9, May 12, May 13 and May 14. All practices will start at 4:10 p.m. Central’s spring game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Jackets Nest on Friday, May 16.
Creekside will be a formidable opponent for the Yellow Jackets. The Seminoles finished 10-3 and advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4-A playoffs. They also finished 13-2 in 2023 and lost in the state title game to Coffee.
“I knew (Creekside) coach (Maurice) Dixon and reached out to him. They’re going to come down here and we’ll split the gate,” Rogers said. “They’re a great football team. Coach Dixon has done a great job with that program.”
