THOMASVILLE- The Thomasville Bulldogs golf team faced off against its cross-town rival, the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets on Thursday afternoon, where the both the girls and boys teams defeated the Jackets.

The Bulldogs were looking for revenge after they were beat by the Jackets early in the season. The team ultimately got what they were looking for, beating TCC by one stroke.

The Lady Bulldogs found even more success on the green, winning by 14 strokes.

Head Coach Pearce Fussell expressed his pride in the Lady Bulldogs, especially low medalist and number one girls player, Adalynn Jones.

Jones is the sister of former Bulldog and college golfer Brycen Jones, who has competed in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.

Palmer McCollum was named the low medalist for the Bulldogs, but Fussell and TCC Head Coach Kevin Esch said it was not the best play they have seen from their boys team this season. Despite this, the healthy rivalry still instilled a sense of competition as the teams prepared to head into their respective area tournaments.

The Bulldogs will head to Adel on Monday for the A1-D1 area tournament. There, they will compete against 15 other teams for a spot at state.

“I think we have a good chance of both our guys and girls making it to state this year,” Fussell said.

During the area tournament, both the guys and the girls will have to place in the top 3 to progress.

Fussell feels the team is ready to rise to the occasion.

“The season had a slow start, but we had a couple of good tournaments where the teams really shined,” he said.

Fussell explained tournaments are a better indicator of how the teams will perform on a larger scale, as they play a full 18 holes as opposed to the nine holes they play during a match.

“We are hoping to have more tournaments next year,” Fussell said.

Regardless of Monday’s results, Fussell is excited for the team to have the experience, as they don’t have any seniors on the team, the level of play will help all of the returning sophomores and juniors when they begin preparing for next year.
