Bulldogs finish strong, headed to the post-season

THOMASVILLE – The Thomasville Bulldogs finished their regular season on Friday with a 4-0 win over Deerfield-Windsor. The Bulldogs finished the regular season strong, winning six of their last seven. That streak included two region wins, three shut outs, and their only loss was to 6A Lee County.

This was Thomasville’s second meeting with Deerfield-Windsor. They defeated the Knights in early March 8-0, and beat Deerfield by a combined 12-0.

With their final win, Thomasville finished with an overall record of 13-5 and a region record of 5-1. The Bulldogs finished second in their region and will enter the playoffs on Friday as the six seed. Their first round opponent will be 27 seeded Social Circle High School out of Social Circle, Georgia. SCHS struggled this year, going 6-11 and 4-6 for fifth in their region. They are entering the post-season on the three-game losing streak. That streak includes two 10-0 shutouts and suffering defeat by a combined 23-2.

Should the playoffs go as expected, Thomasville will face Gordon Central in the second round and are on a collision course with region foe and three seed Jeff Davis. Should they meet, Thomasville and Jeff Davis would face off in the elite eight on May 6. The Yellowjackets are the only team in Region 1 1A-D1 to have defeated Thomasville. JD beat the Bulldogs 2-1 on March 13 at Jeff Davis. A five-game win streak for the Bulldogs followed the loss.

The Thomasville girls will also begin their playoff run this week.

They also defeated Deerfield-Windsor on Friday in a penalty shootout. The win pushed Thomasville to an excellent 15-2 overall record. The Lady Bulldogs went undefeated in region play and took home the region title. Their only two losses this year were to Thomas County Central, 3-0 in February and 1-0 on April 3.

The Lady Bulldogs enter the post-season as the number three seed behind one seed Bremen and two seed ACE Charter out of Macon, Georgia. Thomasville is the top seed in their region of the bracket.

Their round one opponent is 30 seed Barrow Art and Sciences Academy. Barrow went 5-12 this year and 1-6 in their region, good for seventh. They are coming in on a three-game losing streak and have lost eight of their last nine games.

The Lady Bulldogs will meet Barrow in the first round of the state playoffs on Thursday April 24 at home.
