Gainous tosses gem for top 25 Troy

CAIRO – Garrett Gainous continues to pitch well for top 25 Troy. His latest gem included seven shutout innings against Old Dominion on April 4. The former Cairo Syrupmaker hurler allowed only two hits in seven innings in pitching the Trojans to a 7-0 win. He also struck out six and walked four. He threw 102 pitches and lowered his ERA to 3.20.

It was a milestone game for the senior pitcher. Gainous became the fourth pitcher in Troy history to reach 250 career strikeouts. He was scheduled to start Friday night’s game against James Madison.

Troy is ranked No. 20 in the country with a 24-9 record. Gainous played a large role in the Trojans’ success. Gainous leads the team with a 5-0 record. He’s logged 39.1 innings, allowing just 33 hits and 14 earned runs. Gainous leads the starters with his 3.20 ERA and is second with 41 strikeouts.
