Central girls track and field stands out in North Florida

THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central’s girls track and field team stood out this weekend at the Tommy Taylor Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Lady Yellow Jackets had multiple first-place finishers, led by D’Laesha Spencer in the 100 meters. She bested second-place finisher and teammate Zykierra Hightower with a time of 12.29 to 12.39. Hightower returned the favor in the 200 meters winning, with a time of 25.28, just ahead of Spencer’s second-place time of 25.97.
Hightower also placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 57.06. Central’s 4×400-meter relay team placed first in a time of 4:23.50. A’Riyah Hall won the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters.
Other top finishers included long-distance runner Cadence Curnalia. She placed sixth in the 800 meters and eighth in the 1,600 meters. Zariah Clark finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.83, just ahead of teammate and eighth-place finisher Ashanti Anderson’s time of 20.26. Anderson also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, ahead of Clark who finished seventh.
Central’s 4×100-meter relay team finished runner-up in a time of 50.34 seconds.
Spencer placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.42 meters, while Abreya Lee also placed fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 9.94 meters. Kennedy Warren placed seventh in the discus, and Jaida Rice placed eighth in the shot put.
Wayne Thompson was one of Central’s top boys finishers, placing second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.19 seconds. Owen May finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.32 seconds. The 4×800-meter relay team finished second, while the 4×400-meter relay team finished first with a time of 3:39.60.
Mason Tillman finished fifth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:36.50 seconds.
Charles Smith finished second in the shot put with a throw of 15.6 meters and third in the discus with a toss of 44.1 meters. Kamyias Jackson placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.72 meters.
DaJuan Bell placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles. Connor Stephens finished eighth in the 400 meters.
