THOMASVILLE – The Thomas Night Hawks handled business as they beat the Warner Royals 25-6 at the TU Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Night Hawk defense took the field first and prevented the Royals from making a first down causing a turnover on downs, giving Thomas’ offense excellent field position for their first drive of the game. Starting at the Warner 18-yard line, quarterback Keelin Coleman quickly went to work finding Destiny Lockett for a couple of yards and Maddie Hougland for six yards to get to the 10-yard line. Coleman capped off the drive with a pass to Gisele Jones for the early touchdown to put the Night Hawks up early.

After Warner’s drive ended in a punt, the Night Hawk offense continued to fire on all cylinders as Coleman found Lockett again for a 23-yard gain, later on the two connected again for a 16-yard completion to get into the red zone. Finding themselves in a fourth down situation, Coleman loaded up and threw a dot to Kiana Acol for the score to up 12-0. The ensuing drive for the Royals once again fell short as they had to punt it away again, giving the ball back to an offense that was not slowing down anytime soon. In fact, they needed only one play to score as Coleman found Jones again on a 50-yard touchdown catch and run.

The offense only punted the ball away once in the first half, and Kaitlyn Herb pinned Warner back on their own two-yard line. The Night Hawks gained possession again after forcing a punt and Holly Neher started off with a seven-yard pass to Acol, then Coleman found Janae Scott for a 15-yard gain before pitching it off to Acol for an additional six yards. Then Coleman and Jones connected again for the third time in the end zone for a score to put the Night Hawks up 25-0 to end the half.

The touchdown was the final one of the day for Thomas as Warner made adjustments at half to slow down the offense. The defense kept up the pace, holding the Royals to back-to-back three and outs. Late in the fourth quarter, Warner finally got on the board as quarterback Kathryn Hutchinson found Angeline Bunting for a 72-yard touchdown before The Night Hawks ran out the clock to end the game.

Jones finished with four receptions for 77 yards and three touchdowns, while Coleman went 16 of 22 for 180 yards and four touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Scott and Lockett set the pace with Scott finishing with four pulls and three pass breakups and Lockett had three pulls and three pass breakups. Finally, Dyva Jones ended with four pulls and a pass breakup.

With the win, the Night Hawks clinched the Sun Conference regular season title for the third time in program history. Next up, they will take on Daytona State college in their final road matchup of the season on Wednesday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m.
