CAIRO– A traffic stop on Vereen Bell Road escalated into a physical confrontation when 48-year-old Jonathen Seth Higginbotham, a substance abuse counselor, was found in possession of cocaine and attempted to destroy the evidence.

During the stop, a Grady County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed signs of possible narcotics involvement. After obtaining consent to search, the deputy discovered a quantity of cocaine hidden in Higginbotham’s sock. When the deputy attempted to retrieve the drugs, Higginbotham physically resisted, engaged in a struggle, and ripped the cocaine from his sock.

Deputies were able to restrain Higginbotham and recover the drugs. A further search of his vehicle uncovered additional cocaine.
