THOMASVILLE – On March 22, the Thomas County Central gymnastics team competed in the Heart of Georgia Invitational in Sandersville, Georgia.
The Lady Jackets were extremely successful at the invitational. They came away with second place competing against ten teams, along with three gymnasts who qualified for state.
“You know, a lot of the north Georgia teams don’t necessarily feel like we can compete with them,” said Central gymnastics coach Carson Kimbrell. “I think this weekend absolutely shows that we can. These girls show up everyday, they work hard, they meet the requirements that they have to have, they go beyond that in order to be able to qualify and prove to all the people who think gymnastics is not a south Georgia sport that we can hang with the best of them.”
Gina Morabito, who came away with a silver medal in last years state competition, qualified for bars on Saturday. She will be competing in both vault and bars at state this year. Morabito also received a qualifying score on floor.
Jennifer Martin also had a good showing, earning her second qualifying score in bars. Martin will get a chance to earn her third qualifier in the Lady Jackets next competition, which would send her to state in bars as well.
