Dog shooting justified

Dear Editor:
I am enraged at the front page article stating that the Pavo police officer that shot and killed two “mean and feral dogs that had recently attacked a lady and a kid” and that during this incident the two dogs were “aggressively barking and snarling at the officer” and Animal Control person before charging the officer and trying to bite him.
The Georgia Code states that a “person may defend his or her person from injury,” nor does the Code “in any way limit in any way the authority or duty of any law enforcement officer.”
Shame on Pavo Police Chief Gibson for suspending this officer who obviously, as a last resort, did the right thing by shooting and killing the dogs.
How short is our community’s memory to not well remember that years ago a local child was jumping on a trampoline and was killed and torn up by two pit bull dogs. More, recently a woman was attacked and killed by dogs while waiting by the bus stop for her kids to arrive. That is just two horrific examples of the numerous people that have been attacked by vicious dogs.
Behavior in dogs is scientifically proven to be very genetic, specifically aggressiveness, and without question, several breeds have been bred to be vicious. It was not stated but I would bet that the two dogs rightfully and correctly shot by the Pavo officer were all or part pit bull.
