THOMASVILLE- In February of 2024, Mitchell House board members began discussions with the leadership of the city’s Fire & Rescue Department about training possibilities involving the Mitchell House’s buildings and occupants in case of a fire or medical emergency. Board members wanted to their occupants to know and practice the best procedures in the event of such emergencies.
That first interaction with Thomasville’s Fire & Rescue leadership has brought about CPR, Heimlich Maneuver, and AED training for Mitchell House residents and retailers led by off-duty firefighters holding instructor certifications; Fire Marshal and Chief level, Fire & Rescue leadership walk-through studies and evaluations of fire and evacuation procedures involving the Mitchell House’s buildings’ multiple floors, condos, entrances / exits, terraces, and balconies; additional emergency key box locations being added to improve firefighter and emergency access; simulated firefighter practice and training addressing fire situations with emergency equipment by the City of Thomasville’s firefighters at The Mitchell House; life-saving automated electronic defibrillators (AEDs) planned for multiple Mitchell House locations so an AED unit is accessible to all residential and retail occupants; redefined firefighting Standard Operating Procedures involving The Mitchell House by the City of Thomasville’s Fire & Rescue Department; and scheduled meeting with Jonathan Conner and Corey Thompson of the city’s Fire & Rescue Department with Mitchell House occupants to implement fire evacuation procedures and special needs strategies.
The retail and residential owners and tenants of The Mitchell House are grateful for the devoted efforts of the Thomasville Fire & Rescue Department’s leadership and firefighters.
“We appreciate Deputy Chief / Fire Marshal Jonathan Conner, Battalion Chief / Chief of Training Corey Thompson, Captain Marshall Green, Captain Michael Mann and all the firefighters of the department,” said Clark Lunsford of the Mitchell House Condominium Association. “We encourage the owners and leaders of other downtown Thomasville buildings and businesses to learn more about firefighting and emergency procedures with our City’s Fire & Rescue Department.”
