THOMASVILLE- Thomasville Entertainment Foundation is bringing the United States Navy Band to Thomasville next month in a free community concert, part of a Southeastern states “mega tour” of three different performance ensembles.

On Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m., TEF will present the U.S. Navy Concert Band, along with the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters Chorus and the U.S. Navy Cruisers, in a 90-minute performance in the Thomasville High School gymnasium.

More than 75 musicians will be on hand to entertain the community, as the Navy celebrates its 250th anniversary and the 100th year of service by the U.S. Navy Band in a series of concerts across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Florida in March and April.

“We are so excited to bring the U.S. Navy’s bands and chorus in a combined ensemble concert to our community and the entire Red Hills region,” said TEF President Peggy Brady. “We’re inviting everyone to come out to enjoy a family-friendly concert with music of all kinds, from pop to patriotic, Broadway showstoppers and of course some traditional military band repertoire. Something for all of us.”

The performance is being presented under the banner of the TEF Family Series.

“For several years, we’ve been working with representatives of the various U.S. Military bands to get one of their ensembles to Thomasville, and we’re excited that it’s finally coming together in such a big way,” TEF Executive & Artistic Director Rick Ivey explained.

“Like most of the military branches, the U.S. Navy has a number of performing ensembles that tour the country – appearing in community concerts like ours, performing at special holiday events, playing at official events like Presidential inaugurations and funerals of national leaders.”

“Some communities might host the U.S. Navy Concert Band, while others will have the Top 40 band, the Cruisers. Still others might have the Sea Chanters Chorus, but we’ll be presenting these three ensembles together,” Ivey added.

Thomasville High School’s gymnasium is located at 315 S. Hansell Street.
