To avoid hitting the pedestrian, Cardona Lopez swerved, striking a parked, unoccupied vehicle.

Roland activated his emergency lights and attempted to make a traffic stop on Cardona Lopez. However, Cardona Lopez struck another unoccupied vehicle before stopping just short of MLK Ave. SW.

In the midst of Roland giving dispatch the information on the stop, Cardona Lopez took off heading south on Broad St, toward 4th Ave. SW.

Roland immediately notified dispatch of Cardona Lopez’s vehicle and his direction of travel. The Grady County Sheriff’s Office advised Roland that one of its officers was headed en route to 111 South to see if they could locate Cardona Lopez.

Roland continued to 111 South as well, when he witnessed Cardona Lopez passing a car on the wrong side of the road at a high rate of speed. He alerted dispatch once again to let them know Cardona Lopez was now headed south out of town.

Minutes later, Grady County Sheriff’s Office deputies advised they had located Cardona Lopez once again and he was pulling into a driveway just outside of Reno.

Shortly after sharing they had found him, Cardona Lopez backed out of the driveway and sped back into town at reported speeds of more than 130 mph.

Deputies followed him back into town, where they found Cardona Lopez had wrecked in a small wooded area near 111 South.

Officers found Cardona Lopez lying on the ground just outside the vehicle, which was heavily damaged.

EMS arrived to check Cardona Lopez’s injuries, but he informed them that he did not want to go to the hospital.

Deputies contacted State Troopers to then take over the scene.

Upon taking control of the scene, Lopez was arrested and taken to the Grady County Detention Center, where he was fingerprinted and booked on charges of failure to maintain lane, hit and run x2, open container, possession of alcohol under the age of 21, littering from a motor vehicle, driving without a valid license, and fleeing or attempting to elude.

Once fingerprinted, CPD made contact with U.S. Immigration about Cardona Lopez and his charges. ICE requested a hold be placed on Lopez.
