THOMASVILLE – For the second time this season Thomas County Central shut out Thomasville on the diamond. On Tuesday night the Yellow Jackets faced off against the Bulldogs. Thomasville hoped for redemption after a rough start to the season and an 8-0 loss to Central in the opener. Central wanted to double down and prove that the season opener wasn’t a fluke.

Central proved their point, dominating the Bulldogs from start to finish in a 14-0 game that was called after four and a half innings. Central’s bats were hot on a cold Tuesday night, racking up 11 hits and 13 RBI’s. Dom McCann led the Jackets with two hits, a walk, and four RBI’s. The Yellow Jackets had eight batters with at least one hit and four with at least one RBI.

“I think it’s the work we did in the weight room,” said Central head coach Sy Jones about his teams success at the plate. “The overall strength of the guys are just a little bit bigger and stronger than they were last year. That comes with age and we’re happy with coach Floyd and what he’s doing with the guys in the weight room… Our mental approach to each single at bat. Making each pitch have a life of it’s own. When the pitch is over, that one’s dead and you move on to the next one.”

Central wasted no time, putting up three runs in the first. After a scoreless second inning, they pushed their lead to double-digits in the third, scoring seven. The Jackets tacked on four more in the fourth before the game was called.

Starter Dallas Pitts and Stone Singletary had the mound for Central and combined for three strikeouts and allowed just a single hit between them.

JC Wise had the lone hit for Thomasville, which cycled through three pitchers in the game. Deutsch lasted the longest, going 2.2 innings and allowing seven hits and eight runs. All three pitchers combined for jsut one K in the game.

“It’s always good to get a win against those guys,” Jones said. “It’s a great rivalry that’s been around and long time. You alwasy give your best against your cross-town rival. We really played some clean baseball over the last three games, so we’ll reflect on that and see where we can get better because we’re going to need it agaisnt some very good teams in the next six or seven games getting ready for our region play.”

Thomasville will atempt to bouce back after a 1-3 start to the season as they face Ware County before a four game road trip. Central will look to keep their undefeated record alive with three of their next four games at home.
