CAIRO- Grady County will soon have a new addition to its Barber Park.

Becky Bracewell, Grady County Recreation Director, confirmed that a new splash pad and exercise lap pool are in the process of being built with completion expected in a little more than a month.

“It was a SPLOST project that we looked at and looked at for several years. The school system thought they wanted to build a pool, so they took the funding. Then they decided it wasn’t going to fit what they wanted there and gave the money back to the county. We’re putting it to good work,” Bracewell said.

“Hopefully, we’ll be completed by the end of March. Plans right now are to open the facility when school’s out.”

Bracewell said the pool is four feet deep, handicap accessible and ‘L’ shaped.

The facility will also house picnic benches for public gatherings and other events that Grady County residents want to hold.

“It’s a community project so we’re going to be able to have birthday parties and offer it to the public as readily available for events, birthday parties and things like that,” Bracewell said. “It’s about the kids. It’s something that Grady County needed for a long time for our children to do and our families to do.

“We’re also in the process of building brand new batting cages. They’ll be lighted, and we’ll be able to use that. It’ll be open to the public as well. What better place to have your children and family than at the Barber Park?”

Barber Park is located at 45 Long Branch Road in Cairo, Georgia.
