Brooks helps Dogs past Fitzgerald

THOMASVILLE – The Thomasville Lady Bulldogs got a big region win on Tuesday night over the Purple Hurricanes of Fitzgerald. Freshman phenom Jayla Brooks paved the way to victory for the Lady Bulldogs with her tremendous offensive performance.
Brooks led Thomasville to a 65-50 win over Fitzgerald with a career-high 33 points. Brooks knocked down seven threes in the game and notched 13 of the Lady Bulldogs’ 18 points in the fourth quarter to put away the Canes.
It was a close game to start with Fitzgerald leading by three at the end of the first. Thomasville pulled within one as the two teams headed into halftime. However, as the third quarter began, the Lady Bulldogs came to life.
Thomasville dropped 23 in the third frame, outscoring Fitzgerald 23-11. Brooks dropped eight points in the quarter with contributions from Rhaniya Wilson, Harmony Bryant, and Ma’khia Banks.
Thomasville went on to score 18 more in the final quarter to earn the 15-point region win. This win over Fitzgerald pushes Thomasville past .500, making them 11-10 on the season. It’s their fourth region win of the year, leaving them at 4-5 and fifth in the region.
Thomasville has three more region games this season starting with Bacon County tonight. On the seventh, the Lady Bulldogs will host Worth County and they will take on Jeff Davis on the eighth.
