THOMASVILLE- A structure fire at 128 Remington Ave. broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning, but thanks to a local good samaritan all seven occupants made it out safely.

According to Thomasville Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Jonathan Conner, on January 4, at approximately 9 a.m. a bystander knocked down the door of 128 Remington Ave. to alert residents to a fire. The bystander then alerted Fire Station 1, where personnel responded immediately with mutual aid from Thomas County Fire Rescue.

Engineers spent hours dousing the flames, but they were thankful to report no fatalities or injuries due to the efforts of the good samaritan.

Conner is asking the unknown individual to come to Fire Station 1, so he or she can be recognized and thanked personally for their heroism.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the structure has been considered a total loss with major damage on the second floor and water and smoke damage throughout the home.

Thomasville Fire Rescue has reached out to the Red Cross and is working with an initiative that will take all the individuals’ smoke-filled clothes and belongings, wash them, and return them after their displacement.
