THOMASVILLE – Thomasville took on Highway 84 rival Cairo on Saturday night in their first game of the new year, earning a 10-point victory over the Syrupmakers. It was a close game at the start, but a pair of 19-point quarters and the combined efforts of Monte Colvin and Jordan Mitchell pushed the Bulldogs past the Syrupmakers.
Thomasville sophomore Monte Colvin led the way for the Bulldogs, dropping 15 on the head of Cairo. Jordan Mitchell had 12 points on the night, shooting an impressive 80% and knocking down a trio of threes. Senior Si Wilson, who led the Bulldogs in minutes played on Saturday night, had nine points of his own to pair with five steals and a team-leading seven assists.
This win brings the Bulldogs to 6-3 on the season and puts them back in the win column after an eight-point loss to Godby in game three of the Holiday Hoopfest. Thomasville is now preparing for a long home stretch that will see them play three region games, as well as a game against Brookwood, a rematch of last year’s 56-55 classic. Thomasville will also face Lowndes in the upcoming home stretch, a class 6A opponent who sits at 10-5 and beat the Bulldogs by just two points in the second game of the season.
