Local players receive AJC All-State honors

THOMASVILLE – The Atlanta Journal-Constitution released its 2024 High School Football All-State teams and multiple local players made the cut.

Thomasville had a fantastic bounce-back season, going 10-3 just one season after going 6-6. The Bulldogs upperclassmen spearheaded this fantastic 2023-2024 campaign. Bulldogs’ offensive lineman Jaylen Walden is the only player in the area to make the first team. Walden made the Class A D1 first-team offense and, at 6’2 and 315 pounds, the Thomasville senior is the biggest player on the first-team offense.

Earning honorable mentions for the Bulldogs are o-lineman Geremiah Humbert and quarterback Cam Hill. Humbert had 26 solo tackles and 53 total tackles this year. He led the Bulldogs in sacks with five and secured eight tackles for a loss and 19 QB hurries. Hill had a phenomenal season under center, passing for 1745 yards and 20 touchdowns on a 60% completion percentage.

Thomas County Central had two players receive honorable mention in Class 5A, Dee Reddick and Jayden Rubbo. Reddick, who is headed to USC, was integral to Central’s success on defense and special teams. Reddick had an interception this season and recorded 359 kick return yards and three kick return touchdowns. Rubbo was second in tackles for the Yellow Jackets with 6.5 per game. He led Central in fumbles caused with three and fumble recoveries with five.

One of the biggest stories in South Georgia football was Cairo’s Bryian Duncan Jr. Duncan, who received an All-State honorable mention, was the Syrupmakers’ offense this year. The sophomore running back recorded nearly 1800 rushing yards in just nine games. He had over 2000 all-purpose yards and 20 rushing touchdowns on the year.
