THOMASVILLE- Runners braved the freezing temperatures on Saturday morning for the Thomasville Junior Service League’s annual Red Nose run to benefit children in Thomas County through their eyeglass program.
With approximately 55 people in attendance, Red Nose Run Chair Jill Holloway said the run was a great success, especially since the League had to cancel last year due to inclement weather.
Overall male and female winners for the run were Nicholas May of Thomasville in first place with a time of 22:44 and Kenley Reneau of Thomasville with a time of 28:17.
Following the awards for overall winners, runners were awarded in their age category.
With Reneau taking the win for 0-14 female runners, Edon Grace Waldrep was named the second-place winner. Wyatt Orr was named first place in the Male 0-14 category with a time of 30:12.
For females ages 15-19, Adalee King of Thomasville placed first, clocking in at 37:55.

For ages 40-49, Abrie Sellers took first with a time of 32:36. Linda Law of Ochlocknee finished with a time of 30:30, claiming the win for ages 50-59.
Awards were then given to the male participants.
With May already winning overall, he won the 15-19 age category as well.
Cole Ramaekers won the male ages 20-29 category, clocking in at 29:24. Nate Brinson took home the medal for the ages 30-39 category with a time of 31:28.
For ages 40-49, local Jason Hand won again with a time of 23 minutes exactly. Hand improved his overall time from the 2022 run when he won his age category with a time of 24:20.
No individual competed in the 50-59 or 50-69 category. However, John Shapiro took home the medal for males 70-99 with a time of 29:43.
Upon the completion of the 5K awards, Eddie Schweitkert and Emory Reneau were named the male and female winners of the annual Kids Fun Run and given goodie bags and a gift card to celebrate.
Runners were then invited to take pictures with Santa, who completed the Fun Run with Schweitkert and Reneau.
As the race wrapped up, the JSL thanked their sponsors for making the run a reality.
With the race now behind them, Holloway said the League is looking forward to their next event. The JSL will be hosting a prom closet in February, where high school students can rent a gently worn prom dress for their special night.
The League is currently accepting dress donations and can be contacted at thomasvillejsl@gmail.com for pickups.
