TU to host swearing in ceremony during Homecoming

THOMASVILLE- As the 70th anniversary of Veterans Day approaches, nearly 40 Thomas University students will take an oath to enlist in the Georgia Army National Guard on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Veterans Memorial Stadium, 701 E. Jackson St. in Thomasville.

“These students have chosen an opportunity to serve their country, state, and community by joining the Georgia Army National Guard,” Stephen Ferguson, Vice President of Military and Corporate Relations at Thomas University, said. “Their commitment to service speaks volumes about their character and dedication to our nation’s freedom. By enlisting in the armed services, these men and women have answered the call to duty, while continuing to pursue their academic goals at Thomas University.”

Georgia Army National Guard Major Lieutenant Patrick T. Jarvis will be in attendance, along with more than 30 recently enlisted Georgia Guardsmen who will share their stories. Major Lieutenant Jarvis is also the Commander of the Bravo Company and the Recruiting and Retention Battalion in the Georgia Army National Guard.

The ceremony will be held at 11:40 a.m. before the kickoff of TU’s Homecoming game against St. Thomas University. Thomas County Central High School’s JROTC led by TU alum, Lieutenant Colonel Kevin D. Ingram, will present the colors before the start of the game.

Veterans and military personnel will be able to attend the game for free.
