THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central’s boys and girls basketball teams opened play on Tuesday with a scrimmage against Atkinson County. The girls looked good, playing a very close game down to the wire. They ultimately won 50-42 as junior Jaden Crews looked like Central’s best player on the court. She came away with multiple steals leading to fast-break points and played at a quick pace.

The Central boys took a 58-43 victory over the Rebels. The seasoned group, including Valdosta transfer Eric Love, looked good as they conquered Atkinson County.

The boys will be looking for a turnaround season for a program that has struggled in recent years. With a healthy roster filled with upperclassmen, it makes sense that they would be optimistic. The girls, meanwhile, are looking to continue excellence. Last season the Lady Jackets finished 21-8 and 7-6 in the region. That was good for third place. They will be looking to improve upon their playoff performance as the Central girls went out in the first round last year to St. Pius.

Both teams will begin their seasons on November 12 when they face Worth County at home. The Rams were decent last year with the boys going 15-10 overall and the girls finishing at 13-16.
