Thomas County Middle School students shine in River of Words Contest

THOMASVILLE- Four Thomas County Middle School students recently distinguished themselves in the Golden Triangle River of Words Contest, which they entered through Keep Thomas County Beautiful. The competition, designed to celebrate students’ creative and literary expressions with a focus on environmental themes, showcased the exceptional talent and environmental awareness of these young artists and poets.
In the Art category, Ellis Robertson earned a 3rd Place award, and JB Lattey received an Honorable Mention. Their artwork demonstrated a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and a dedication to honoring it through visual expression.
In the Poetry category, students also excelled. Janiya Ivey earned 3rd Place, while both Xue Zhehkun and Kara Colon received Honorable Mentions. Their poems beautifully conveyed the importance of nature through words, echoing themes of environmental stewardship and appreciation.
These talented students were honored on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Chehaw Park, where they joined other winners in celebrating their achievements and contributions to environmental awareness through art and poetry. These awards serve as a testament to the inspiring ways young people in Thomas County engage with and protect the world around them.
