THOMASVILLE- Prepare for an evening of music, mayhem and a whole lot of attitude when the Thomasville City Schools Drama Program presents a community performance of Thomasville High School’s One Act Play competition piece, “Sister Act Jr.,” this Saturday, November 2.
With a curtain time of 7 p.m., in the historic MacIntyre Park Auditorium on Glenwood Drive, the performance is a one-hour version of the musical comedy that earned Olivier and Tony Award nominations for its successful runs on London’s West End and on Broadway.
General admission tickets are $5.
Reigning Region One Act Champions, Thomasville High’s cast and crew of nearly 30 students are excited to share their talents with the community before they take the musical to Region Competition in Fitzgerald on Monday. Senior competitors will be recognized following Saturday’s performance.
The musical follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier who, after witnessing a gang murder, is hidden in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with an uptight Mother Superior and uses her disco moves and singing talents to rejuvenate the choir. But as she breathes new life into the church and neighborhood, her cover is blown, and the gang gives chase.
Filled with gospel music, dynamic dancing and a moving story, “Sister Act Jr.” gives audiences a reason to rejoice. Based on the hit 1992 film, “Sister Act Jr.” is a feel good musical comedy, featuring original music by Alan Menkin, lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.
