THOMASVILLE – It was complete and total domination on Friday night in Thomasville as the Bulldogs obliterated Brantley County in a 62-0 region win.
Thomasville started early and hot as Cam Hill hit Si Wilson for a 61-yard passing touchdown. Kayden Walker made his presence known on special teams as, on the ensuing kickoff, he stripped the ball and gave possession back to the Bulldogs.
On the very next play Hill found Rex Schofill on a 64-yard pass for the score and, after just two offensive plays, Thomasville was up 14-0. They continued to pour it on, scoring in just two plays on the next drive as Lavonte Cole scampered in on a six-yard touchdown run.
Hill would take a 10-yard run into the end zone on the following drive to put Thomasville up 28-0 with 4:24 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs defense was phenomenal. They forced three and out after three and out and didn’t allow Brantley a first down until 7:32 left in the first half. The Bulldogs made their presence known early on when Joe Douglas snagged an interception and returned it 30 yards for a pick-six. Keymon Jefferson had the game of his career with back-to-back scoop and scores to increase the Bulldogs’ lead to 48 with just over a minute left in the first quarter. Thomasville’s defense was stifling all night as they held Brantley to just 24 passing yards and 55 rushing yards.
The second quarter began with more of the same as Wilson had a great return past mid-field and Ant Anderson took a short pass to the house for a 55-0 lead.
Perhaps, one of the more remarkable aspects of this game was the lack of penalties committed by Thomasville. Head coach Jonathan DeLay said earlier in the week that their goal was to play as close to a perfect game as possible. An overwhelming amount of penalties is what lost the Bulldogs the Worth County game and it made the Fitzgerald game much closer than it had to be.
This game was a different story. Thomasville committed just one penalty in the first half, which gave Brantley a first down on a fourth and long that would have been a turnover. Thomasville had very few penalties in the second half and looked very disciplined on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
Anderson would take on another touchdown in the third quarter before the backups were slotted in to finish the game. Thomasville secured a 62-0 dominating victory over the Herons. Hill was four for four passing on the night for 183 yards and three touchdowns. The Bulldogs tacked on another three scorers in the run game on 121 yards as Thomasville totaled 393 yards of offense. The defense also contributed three scores, giving them nine touchdowns overall.
Thomasville now sits firmly in the driver’s seat in the region with a 4-1 record and looks poised for a region title.
