THOMASVILLE- Join the staff at Pebble Hill Plantation for a wonderful afternoon program on Sunday, October 27th, as author Catherine Ledyard shares her delightful children’s book, “Pageant’s Miraculous Journey,” in an open-air storytelling setting. The event, held in the Stable Courtyard, will begin with Ledyard’s presentation at 2 p.m. with other activities taking place until 5 p.m. Admission to this event is free and suitable for all ages.

The book. “Pageant’s Miraculous Journey” chronicles the true story of a foxhound, named Pageant, and how he incredibly found his way back to his rural Jefferson County, Florida home after an escape from a veterinary hospital in Thomasville, Georgia

Pageant, the hound, had been hospitalized at a veterinary clinic in Thomasville after an incident with Spear grass. Near the end of his recuperation, he escaped from a vet tech and began the more than 30-mile journey to his home and family in Florida. He arrived at Live Oak Kennels on Easter Sunday morning, much to the delight and surprise of everyone.

Ledyard, who hunts with the Live Oak Hounds, took Pageant’s remarkable story and wrote the children’s book, which chronicles his journey, the perils he must have faced, and the animal friends he made along the way. The child in everyone will enjoy hearing the story of Pageant and his miraculous journey home.

Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. Members of the Live Oak Hounds staff will be on site to share the traditions and history of foxhunting and a foxhound from the Live Oak Hounds pack will be the special guest at the event. In addition to the telling of Pageant’s story, there will be children’s fox and hound themed arts and crafts and hands-on nature activities.

Elisabeth “Miss Pansy” Ireland Poe, last mistress of Pebble Hill, kept her own foxhound pack and campaigned them in hound shows up and down the Eastern seaboard from the 1920s through 1950s. Her pack garnered many national awards. Dogs and horses were two of Miss Pansy’s great loves, so also appropriately taking part in the event, will be Thomasville Humane with adorable adoptable dogs and members of the Live Oak Hounds Pony Club with a foxhunting pony for everyone to meet.

Again, admission to the event is free and there will be refreshments available for purchase from Nina’s Creamery and the Grady County 4H Horse Club. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. More information may be obtained by visiting https://pebblehill.com/ or by calling 229-226-2344.
