CAIRO – The Cairo Syrupmakers extended their win streak to five games on Friday night as they bested Monroe in a region matchup. It was on the heels of sophomore sensation Bryain Duncan’s three-touchdown performance that Cairo was able to top the Golden Tornadoes 38-14.

Duncan’s first touchdown was perhaps his most impressive of the season. Taking the handoff to the left side, it looked like Duncan would be stopped for a loss of about six yards. Duncan, however, had other plans as he shed a tackle, changed direction, and turned upfield for a 50-yard score. This was less than two minutes into the game.

Duncan tacked on another touchdown to his scoring total, taking it up the middle, bouncing to the outside, and taking it to the house for a 37-yard touchdown. Monroe would respond in the second quarter with a touchdown pass to Keontaye Hayes.

Cairo took a 17-7 lead into halftime after a last-minute field goal by Dray Bass.

The Syrupmakers would march down the field to open the third frame with a score and would open the fourth quarter with yet another touchdown on the ground for their fourth rushing score in the game. Duncan would secure his third touchdown of the game with three minutes to go in the contest with a 31-yard scamper into the end zone.

After falling in the first two games of the season, Cairo has rattled off five consecutive wins. This win over Monroe makes the Syrupmakers 2-0 in the region, though their toughest tests are yet to come. Cairo is currently at the top of the region, but their final two games of the season against Peach County and Westover, both of whom are 6-1, will be for the region championship.

Bryan Duncan has been key to the Syrupmakers’ success this season. The sophomore is currently averaging just over 200 yards per game and has racked up 17 touchdowns. Duncan has already secured over 1200 yards this season with three games to go in the regular season and is looking at a possible 1700-yard season. He is averaging over 11 yards per carry.
