CPD arrests subject on eight counts of burglary

CAIRO- On December 10, 2023, the Cairo Police Department were advised of a burglary at a local business. Over the next few days, several more businesses were broken into.
Once officers were able to obtain video surveillance footage from one of the businesses, they were able to identify the suspect as Billy Irby. Irby’s fingerprints were matched from one of the business burglaries. Warrants were obtained.
On December 14, 2023, Irby walked into a local restaurant with a firearm and demanded money from the clerk. Irby left the store on foot and the clerk called 911 giving Irby’s direction of travel. Officers were able to locate Irby nearby and apprehend him without further incident. Irby is being charged for the offenses of 8 counts of Burglary-2nd Degree, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
