CAIRO – The Cairo Syrupmakers continue to enjoy the postseason accolades.
Senior offensive lineman Cade Puckett and senior linebacker Jeremiah Williams were named the ITG Next Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
Cairo coach David Coleman talked about the recognition his two seniors received.
“They’re a couple of just high character people for us. They’ve been here for all four years and done such a great job,” Coleman said. “I think Puckett started for four years for us, and he’s been a leader for us. Jeremiah is just an intelligent, vocal leader for us. We just couldn’t be more proud of those guys.
“The last two years Cade has played offensive and defensive line for us. He was all-region this year and last year on both sides of the ball. That just speaks to his effort and his willingness to do anything to help the team.”
Williams was named the Region 1-4A’s defensive player of the year after recording a team-leading 81 tackles last season.
ITG Next recognizes the top offensive and defensive players from high schools across South Georgia.
“They cover South Georgia sports and do such a great job; people that work our area, promoting high school football and really all sports. We just couldn’t appreciate them and the job that they do any more than we do. They’re just great.”
