THOMASVILLE — After a solid season with record-breaking performances from the Warriors high powered offense, seniors Rodge Waldrop and TJ Thomas have been named co-region Players of the Year.
These two seniors have been at the center of the Brookwood offense for much of their time with the Warriors. They are inarguably two of the most effective offensive talents that Thomasville has seen in recent years.
Waldrop’s senior season was his statistical best with Brookwood. He was a nightmare for opposing secondaries, throwing for 3,408 total yards. Waldrop had three games with over 300 yards, one game with over 400 and set the Georgia state record for single game passing yards with 698 against Deerfield-Windsor.
Over the season Waldrop completed over 50% of his passes and had a pair of games where he completed over 70%. Waldrop finished his career with a single season high 40 passing touchdowns and a career low 11 interceptions. Waldrop also showed off his newfound athleticism, rushing for 159 yards and five touchdowns.
Thomas, who committed to Elon earlier in the year and will sign with the Phoenix on December 20, was unparalleled this season.
He led the Warriors team in rushing yards per game, total touchdowns, receiving and rushing touchdowns and recorded a team high three interceptions on the season.
Thomas proved to be just as much of a threat on the ground as he was in the air, racking up 946 yards and 16 rushing TDs. Receiving wise, Thomas went off, recording 1,025 receiving yards, completing a thousand yard season. He also brought in 14 receiving touchdowns bringing his scoring total to 31 TDs on the season.
Thomas impressed further with eight or more catches in five games with 10 against Pinewood and five games with over 100 receiving yards. He also rushed for over 100 yards four times this season.
hese two Warriors will be sorely missed by the program as they leave incredibly large shoes for anyone to fill. However, for now Brookwood is focusing on celebrating their seniors as they bring the co-region players of the year award to Brookwood.
