THOMASVILLE – The football season is nearing an end, and the postseason awards are beginning to accumulate for area teams.
The Thomasville Bulldogs were well represented on the All-Region 1-AAA team, including senior wide receiver Cole Shaw being named the offensive player of the year.
Thomasville’s first-team offensive selections included sophomore running back Lavonte Cole, senior offensive lineman Rah’Quez Smiley and sophomore athlete Leelend Chapman. Its first-team defensive selections include senior defensive lineman Keshawn Jordan and freshman defensive back AJ Hill. Senior kicker Colby Hall was also a first-team selection.
Thomasville’s second-team offensive selections included sophomore quarterback Cam Hill, junior running back Ant Anderson, sophomore wide receiver Nigel Pittman, junior wide receiver Messiah Wilson, junior offensive lineman Jaylen Walden and senior lineman Mac Mobley.
The Bulldogs’ second-team defensive selections included junior lineman Rah’Darius McCoy, junior lineman Keymon Jefferson, junior lineman Geremiah Humbert, sophomore linebacker Joe Douglas and senior defensive back Tyreek Williams.
“I’m really proud for the kids, because here’s the thing about all-region, I get an opportunity to nominate the kids but I don’t get to vote for any of my kids,” Thomasville coach Jonathan DeLay said. “This is all the other coaches in the region voting for them. That’s what to me makes it so special. There’s other coaches that see these guys on tape and live and think enough of them to say, ‘That kid deserves to be in this spot.’ That’s probably one of the most special things to me about it. Yes, I know how good they are and how much they’ve helped our team, but other coaches can see how much they’ve helped us as well.”
The Bulldogs finished 6-6 this year, including 3-1 in Region 1-AAA. Thomasville advanced to the second round of the state playoffs after defeating Harlem 36-29 in the opening round.
Carver-Columbus senior running back De’Ante Childs was named the region offensive player of the year, while Carver-Columbus senior outside linebacker Kourtney Kelly was chosen as the region defensive player of the year. Crisp County sophomore wide receiver DeShaun Field was named the athlete of the year, while Dougherty freshman quarterback David Burgess was chosen as freshman of the year.
