RML Friends of the Library to sell baked goods at Christmas Parade
The RML Friends of the Library will be having a bake sale on the library’s front lawn during the Christmas Parade on December 7 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. There will be hot chocolate, hot cider, and cookies available for only $1.00 each.
Boys and Girls Club selling raffle tickets to win Golf Cart
The Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club is currently selling tickets for a chance to win a custom made Nivel Golf Cart. Tickets are $25 or 5 for $100 and all proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club in Cairo. Tickets may be purchased from any JRBGC board member or at the Chamber of Commerce. The drawing will be held during the Cairo Christmas parade.
Benefit for Lauren to be held December 14th
There will be a ‘Pray for Lauren’ Benefit dinner to be held to honor a local young girl who is fighting cancer on December 14th from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the Grady County Farmer’s Market. They will be selling dinners that include boston butt, baked beans, coleslaw, bread and pound cake for $12 per plate. Tickets are available and donations can be made a United National Bank in Cairo.
American Legion holding fundraiser during December
The American Legion Post #122 is having a ‘Cash for Christmas Raffle’ during the holidays with your chance to win one of three $250 cash prices to three lucky winners. The drawing will be held on December 8th and you need not be present to win. Call 229-200-7080 or see any American Legion member to purchase tickets.
High school drama class to present Christmas Special
The Cairo High School Stage Makers will present the 2nd Annual Syrupy-Sweet Christmas Special on December 15-16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Cairo High School Auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend and help celebrate the holidays.
Photos with Santa at the Mistletoe Market on December 9th
As part of the annual Mistletoe Market in Downtown Cairo, there will be Photos with Santa available at the Foundry (120 South Broad Street) from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with Santa taking a lunch break from 12:30-1:30 p.m. A variety of photo packages will be available for purchase.
Food for fines at Library
During the month of December, bring your nonperishable food items to the Roddenbery Memorial Library to pay off your fines! One item = $3.00 owed in fines. Food donations cannot be used for lost or damaged items or collection fees. All items will be donated to the Grady County Help Agency.
Chamber accepting nominations for Annual Awards
The Roddenbery Memorial Library is currently accepting nominations for the awards given at their annual meeting. Nominations are open for Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Young Professional of the Year, Community Service Professional of the Year and Farm Family of the Year. Nomination forms are available online at www.cairogachamber.com.
Mistletoe Market to be held December 9th
The Annual Mistletoe Market will be held December 9th from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Downtown Cairo. The annual market will showcase the best arts & crafts vendors, live music, local entertainment, food, and photos with Santa. Library Bookstore open this Saturday
If you’re looking for a great Christmas gift this holiday season, remember that the Roddenbery Memorial Library’s Bookstore is open every Saturday at 10:30a.m. You’ll find plenty of gently used books, periodicals and more for sale.
Chamber selling tickets for 20 Gun Raffle
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce is currently selling tickets for their 20 Gun in 20 Days Raffle. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold, and each ticket is good for multiple days. Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased by calling the Chamber at 377-3663, stopping by the Chamber’s offices on North Broad Street or visiting www.cairogachamber.com.
Cairo Christmas Parade date set for December 7th
The Merchants of Downtown Cairo and the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce have announced the date and theme for this year’s annual Cairo Christmas Parade. The parade will be held on Thursday night, December 7th beginning at 7 p.m. and the theme for this year will be ‘Santa’s Workshop.’
Library introduces Craft Café for Teens
The Roddenbery Memorial Library has added a new Teen Craft Café: Arts & Crafting for Teens every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Maker Space. New art projects and crafts will be introduced each week and snacks will be provided. All teens ages 12-18 are invited.
Library offers Virtual Reality play for teens
The Roddenbery Memorial Library now has Virtual Reality Play for Teens available every Monday-Thursday from 3-5p.m. in the teen flex space. There are virtual reality games and headsets for Xbox 360, and Wii gaming with library staff available to assist teens in using them. Just ask a staff member for assistance.
Parent training being offered Online for new school year
Grady County Schools remind all parents and guardians who are planning on attending any school field trip, volunteering in the school or working around students in the school in any capacity, that you must complete a mandatory training. The training is offered online at www.prosolutionstraining.org. After completion of the training, please print the certificate that you will receive and bring it to your child’s school prior to the event in order to receive the mandatory certificate card for mandated reporter training.
