THOMASVILLE — As the Kennesaw State baseball team traveled to Athens for the second of their two fall games, former Thomasville Bulldog Ryan Renfroe took the mound for the Owls. Kennesaw State and Georgia met for a pair of 7-inning exhibition games on Sunday afternoon and freshman Renfroe was able to get in some work.
Renfroe pitched 1.1 innings for the Owls and finished the game with a pair of strikeouts. Renfroe also hit a milestone in his pitching career as he hit 96 mph. According to Perfect Game, Renfroe was able to hit 90 mph with his fastball in high school. 90 to 96 may not seem like a massive jump, but for a freshman to improve his fastball that much in such a short time is truly impressive.
“Obviously extremely proud of Ryan and his accomplishments this fall and how his projections keep growing,” said Thomasville head coach Erik McDougald. “Ryan was such an exceptional young man with impeccable work ethic. On the heals of having Hurston (Waldrep) represent our community and now Ryan doing great things at Kennesaw, we are certainly proud of how he represents the diamond T.”
Throughout the course of the 14 innings played, the Owls fell to the Bulldogs 12-3. With Kennesaw State’s fall ball wrapped up, the Owls are now looking to the start of the season. They will begin their 2024 season in Birmingham with a thee game series against UAB from February 16-18.
