THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central’s softball season did not have the finish it wanted. But, being ousted in the Super Regionals of the Class 6-A tournament did not take away from the team’s accomplishments this season.

The Lady Yellow Jackets finished 15-15, won 10 Region 1 games and placed second in the region standings this year.

“I honestly was very proud of the team. I was proud that we made it there, and I was proud that the girls were able to work through nerves and have a better showing that second time against St Pius X,” Central coach Robyn Trammell said. “All in all, it’s been a great season, and I’m proud of the girls.”

Central lost twice to St. Pius X in two days, including a 13-5 decision in the opener where Trammell said her young team had a case of the “nerves.” Central responded with a 20-0 rout of Rockdale. It led St. Pius X 4-0 in the second meeting but couldn’t hold the lead, losing 7-4.

“There were plays that could have been made, but they’re a very good hitting team. They hit from the first inning to the seventh inning. Obviously, there were plays that we know we should have and could have made. But that was a very good team, and we held our own for a little while. It’s just the way it goes,” Trammell said.

She discussed what it will require of her team to get past the Super Regional hurdle, which is a major challenge for a team that doesn’t win its region.

“We just keep at it. There’s no way around it and no sense in making excuses. We’ve just got to keep working and find a way through. It was a very tough super region. There were some good teams. We’re just going to have to keep working and hope that we can continue to grow each season, which we did this year,” Trammell said.

“Laney Mobley did a great job on the mound. She had a much better outing this year than last year, and I definitely know that she will continue to grow and move in the right direction. That goes for all of the kids. We had a great senior class. For such a young group, you had to have strong leadership in the senior class in order for us to get where we got.

“That’s all I can say. There’s only one way through and that’s to get through. It’s what we’ll keep working on and keep putting in the time.”

Central loses three seniors; Leah Miller, Sarah Stewart and Aly Morabito.
