- THE FABRIC OF OUR COMMUNITY: The Jack Hadley Black History Museum will host their annual gala, which will discuss the communities woven together to create Thomasville and the history behind it.
THOMASVILLE- Mark the calendar for a night of cultural celebration and unity. The 5th Annual Jack Hadley Black History Museum Gala, themed “Reimagine History with Threads of Unity, Community, and Togetherness,” will take place on November 4th, 2023, starting at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at Receptions for You, located at 1200 W. Jackson Street, Thomasville, Ga. 31792.
This year’s gala theme draws inspiration from the powerful imagery of a quilt, symbolizing how this tight-knit community weaves together its diverse stories, experiences, and talents to support both the museum and each other.

A major highlight of the evening will be the captivating performance by the world-renowned McIntosh County Shouters. This group is celebrated for preserving the Gullah-Geechee ring shout, a tradition rooted in African and African-American spiritual practices. Their mesmerizing performances have graced stages across the globe, including notable venues like the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Kennedy Center, and even international stages in places like France and Senegal.
Guests will also have the privilege of hearing from Eric Menninger, our distinguished guest speaker. Menninger will delve into the pages of a historic structures report on the Imperial Hotel, an iconic Green Book location in Thomasville, Georgia. His insights will shed light on an essential chapter of Thomasville’s history, providing a deeper understanding of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped this community.
