- THE QUEEN OF THE SHOW: The Halloween Night of Tricks and Treats will feature a variety of queens from all across north Florida and Georgia, including this green vixen.
THOMASVILLE- The Rose City is serving up some spooky fun with lots of tricks and treats for the audience on Friday, October 27, as the Thomasville Drag Collective presents the Queens of Halloween Drag Show.
The show, which will be held in Downtown Thomasville, is at a secret location that will be emailed out to ticket holders the day of the event.
“There’s a spooky allure at having it at a hidden location,” said Thomasville Drag Collective founder Thomas Duncan. “It’s also more secure.”
The night will feature a series of queens from around the area, along with a costume contest.
“We have queens from Gainesville, Jacksonville, Valdosta and Atlanta coming in to do it,” Duncan said. “They’re going to judge the costume contest and we will have prizes from downtown businesses given out to the winners.”
The night of entertainment will kick off at 8 p.m. and continue throughout the evening. Duncan said there will be a cash bar for those looking to indulge in some seasonal sips.
Duncan is excited to host the event, along with several of his friends, as no one has ever had a true Halloween event for adults.
“I’ve been doing Halloween in Thomasville for a long time,” he explained. “Unlike a lot of other events, no one has ever done a legacy event that’s fun and approachable around Halloween.”
Because Halloween is on a Tuesday, Duncan said he knew the event would have to be on the weekend, and would give people the opportunity to stay in town instead of traveling to Tallahassee or elsewhere to enjoy a fun costume party and event.
So far, Duncan has had a lot of great feedback on the idea, with tickets selling daily.
“I think a lot of people are reeling for an event like this to come to Thomasville for the sake of gay culture,” he said.
The event is marketed toward individuals 18+, but Duncan said it is a family friendly event.
“If you’re taking your kids trick or treating on Friday night, it’s really the place to come after,” he said. “It’s family friendly, but it is geared toward adults. I’ve talked to all the queens and everyone involved to make sure it’s a family friendly, Thomasville- appropriate show.”
The show offers two types of tickets. General admission tickets are $35, while priority admission is $65.
Priority admission gets ticket holders a front row seat. Duncan shared that while every queen is different, priority admission ticket holders are usually privy to some fun interactions during the show. He also encouraged everyone to bring dollar bills for tips, as it is a great way to interact with the queens.
While this will be the first event of its kind in Thomasville, Duncan said the Thomasville Drag Collective, which is a new safe space for the LGBTQ community to show up and perform, hopes to host more events in the future.
“If anyone ever has any ideas and wants to collaborate, we can always connect queens with events that aren’t drag shows too,” Duncan said.
