Night Hawks take down Eagles

THOMASVILLE- The Thomas University Men’s Soccer team hosted Faulkner (9-2-1, 4-2-0) University on Thursday evening.

As both teams entered the game receiving votes in the latest Coaches Top 25 Rankings, it was expected to be an intense matchup. The contest definitely lived up to these expectations.

With playoffs right around the corner, both of these teams proved to be competitive contenders. In the first half both teams’ defenses would keep the game scoreless. Faulkner University would take three shots, one corner kick, and their goalie would record one save. The Night Hawks would take five shots and one corner kick in the period.

In the second period, both teams would fight to get on the scoreboard. The Eagles would take eight shots compared to Thomas’ five. However, in the 88th minute of the contest Diego Sanchez would find Cameron Hawkins for the first and only goal of the game. This goal proved to be the only one Thomas needed to secure the win. After the score, Thomas’ defense would remain stellar to pull off the 1-0 win.

In total, Thomas would take ten shots, four on goal, and one corner kick. The Eagles would record eleven shots, one on goal, and one corner kick. Jorge Gonzalez would record one save for Thomas on the day.

With the win on Thursday, this pushes interim head coach Billy Jeffrey’s record to 4-0 and the Night Hawks overall record to 7-3-2 and 4-2-1 in SSAC play.
