Syrupmaids bring home region title after 3 game series with Bainbridge

BAINBRIDGE- The Cairo Syrupmaids secured the Class AAAA Region 1 title Thursday with a 4-0 win over Bainbridge High School.
The Syrupmaids opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Junior first-baseman Jada Vickers and junior third-baseman Josie Noriega scored off a fly ball double from Senior infielder Megan Meadows to make the score 2-0.

The scoring halted until the seventh inning when Cairo scored two more runs. Sophomore shortstop Makaya Logue and senior outfielder Abby Faircloth scored off a line-drive single from junior catcher Anna Rae Thompson, making the score 4-0.
Senior pitcher Mallory Lyons shut the Lady Cats out. Lyons threw 41 strikes on 65 pitches and allowed three hits.
The win was the Syrupmaids’ second in a three-game series with the Lady Cats. The first win came the day before when Cairo scored a walk-off run to secure a 6-5 victory.
Up next for the Syrupmaids is region opponent Westover. They host the Lady Patriots in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Oct. 3. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
