Literacy For Thomas County’s 19th Annual Literacy Fair
On Thursday, Oct 26, from 5 -7 p.m., the Thomas County Public Library System will be host Literacy for Thomas County’s Annual Literacy Fair for the 19th year.
Literacy For Thomas County is an organization comprised of local businesses and institutions who value the importance of community-wide literacy at every age. This group of civic-minded individuals works to foster a well-rounded community by promoting and supporting literacy. Its goal is to provide the children of Thomas County with the literacy resources they need to become successful and impactful in their community.
One of its main projects is the Literacy Fair. This event connects families and individuals with over 40 vendors who provide literacy items and resources; gives away age-appropriate books for youth; offers a literacy-focused entertainer; and teaches families literacy games that help caregivers further develop the literacy skills of their children.
The Library has been a happy host of the Fair and proud member of Literacy For Thomas County since its forming 19 years ago. In an age when information is coming at you from all directions, seeking and locating the resources you need is a challenge. The Literacy Fair has been a guiding light for those searching for help to improve the reading and comprehension skills of their child, friend or self. It is a great event that gathers the businesses, organizations and industries such a person is looking for under one roof.
In previous years, the Literacy Fair has offered an all ages costume contest along with its traditional activities, and though the contest will not be on the bill, attendees are still encouraged to dress-up as their favorite fictional characters. Returning for another year, literacy entertainer Jennifer Daniels will be bringing James Dean’s popular Pete the Cat stories to life through her interactive musical performance. To top it off, Thomas County School’s favorite mascot, Buzz, will be wandering the crowd, ready for photo-ops.
Just like years before, the 19th Annual Literacy Fair provides caregivers and individuals the excellent opportunity to meet and learn of the various programs and organizations throughout the county available to assist in the ongoing development of literary understanding.
