WELL ON HER WAY: Ashley Price’s win at Stonebridge puts her one step closer to her dream of competing at the D-1 level.

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central’s own Ashley Price won the 2023 GSGA Peggy Kirk Championship over the weekend of September 9-10. It was a very close competition filled with highs for the young Price.

Price has loved golf since she was very young. As a child, she would go to the golf course with her father, who saw talent in his daughter from an early age.

“I just saw something there because she would go out and hit balls when she was little and she just picked it up quickly,” said Mark Price, father of Ashley Price. “She just fell in love with the game and it’s a good thing for me and her. We get to go out and spend time together on the course.”

At just 15 years old, Price is a very accomplished golfer. She made state as an individual this year and is a member of the Yellow Jackets golf team, where she has won multiple tournaments.

“Ashley is a hard working kid,” her father said. “She’s on the golf course at Country Oaks four to five days a week and plays pretty much every single weekend. She does about two tournaments a month. She’s just very dedicated to her sport and her dream is to be a D-1 golfer.”

With a great performance at the 2023 Peggy Kirk Championship, Price is well on her way to achieving that dream. In Rome, Georgia at the Stonebridge Gold Club, Price was tied with another golfer, as both had pulled away from the field. It was neck and neck until the last two holes, where Price began to pull away from her opponent and captured the victory. As a bonus to her win, Price also sank her first ever hole in one.

“That was pretty exciting,” Mark said. “It was an elevated green so, they couldn’t see the green. But, they had a little gally up around the green and we were up there and she hit it perfect. It took one hop and went right in the hole. It was pretty exciting for everybody and for her to get her first one.”

Price will be back in action later in the month as she will attempt to capture another title.
